“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and this is especially true with preventative Botox. Treating deeper lines and wrinkles takes much more time, effort, energy and money compared to preventing these lines in the first place” — Dr Bryan McIntosh

Beauty is at a premium these days. Thanks primarily to social media, it isn’t just movie stars, musicians and other celebrities who are constantly looking for ways to improve their appearance. People who look younger and more attractive actually earn more at their jobs. The need to look our very best has become a preoccupation with societies all over the world, and this has made injectables like Botox a household name.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the use of injectables has grown by 40% in the last five years, and it’s not just among mature people who are looking to reduce signs of aging, either.

Younger generations, especially millennials, are getting Botox treatments early as a preventative measure.

Injectables like Botox have taken aesthetic treatments to a whole new level because they’re quick, non-surgical and come with so little downtime. They’re very affordable too, compared to plastic surgery, and though the results are not permanent, people have fewer hesitations about getting the procedure done.

With so much information readily available in the media, people are more educated now about what Botox can do to arrest signs of aging BEFORE the problem of facial lines and wrinkles can manifest in the first place.

So how does one decide when it is a good time to get preventative Botox?

This is hard to generalize because each person is different and there is no one rule here that will fit everyone. We each use our facial muscles differently and signs of aging such as forehead lines can occur in the late 20s or early 30s for people who, for example, have a habit of frowning too much. Health, genetics and the environmental (such as sun damage) also play a role in how quickly a person may begin to show signs of aging.

By choosing to undergo preventative Botox, people with a propensity to develop crow’s feet, horizontal forehead lines or vertical 11’s between the brows get a head start on controlling the problem. Since the muscles injected with Botox cannot contract, the wrinkles and lines cannot form through repetitive, habitual facial movements either.

By starting early with Botox, the problem areas don’t get a chance to cause long-term damage in the first place, and people can enjoy especially natural results as long as they maintain Botox treatments.

So have you been noticing faint lines showing up even when your face is at rest? The formation of lines is natural when you move your face in animated expressions, like laughing or crying. But if they’re visible even if your face is at rest, then that is cause for concern, because that’s the first sign of wrinkles.
